Professor Ben Canny is Head of School of Medicine at the University of Tasmania where he is responsible for the Divisions of Medicine, Pharmacy, Psychology and Paramedicine and their cognate Health Professions degrees. The School is also actively involved with research, playing a leading role in the University’s theme of Better Health.
Prior to this, he was Deputy Dean (MBBS) in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. In this role, he was responsible for the overall academic governance of the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (Medical) degree. He is Vice-President of the Australian and New Zealand Association for Health Professions Educators (ANZAHPE), and is previous President of the Endocrine Society of Australia. He has been President of the Academic Board of Monash University, and Chair of the Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee. Ben has maintained an active research and teaching profile, focusing on various aspects of stress, reproductive and metabolic endocrinology, as well as on ethics and professional and clinical skills. He has a special interest in Interprofessional Practice and its impacts on health outcomes.
